Mahatma Gandhi

Today is the 75th anniversary of the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Bapu, was born on 2nd October, 1869 in the city of Porbandar in the state of Gujarat, India. He was an Indian revolutionary, anti-colonial nationalist, and political ethicist who wanted to free India from British rule. He belived in non violent and peaceful protests and rallies for India to gain independence from the British. Assuming leadership of the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1921, he led nationwide campaigns for easing poverty, expanding women's rights, ending untouchability etc. But, above all, he also led nationwide campaigns for achieving swaraj (self-rule).  Gandhi's birthday is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti all around the country of India, for Mahatma Gandhi is an inspiration.
