Embracing The Ups And Downs Of New Beginnings
Starting something new is difficult. It makes you feel like you are stepping onto a new plethora of emotions that are novice to you. You feel excited and nervous. But in one way, it is kind of painful. Because you are leaving your comfort zone to start anew, and you don't even know what will happen to you.
It's like you left everything that you have ever known just because you felt that a change would benefit you. Sometimes this decision makes you smile bittersweetly, sometimes you cry about it and other times you are proud of what you have done. All of these feelings are not easy to process, especially in a new environment.
If you do not feel this way on doing something new, I would like to kindly advise you to consider truthfully introspecting yourself once again. If your feelings remain unchanged, then you are either quite mentally strong or you are not starting afresh.
But if you do feel this way, then do not feel guilty about it. This is what is what I like to call a rollercoaster of emotions. Deep down, everyone feels emotions. Some accept it, and some deny it. But that doesn't change the fact that while taking new decisions, everyone rides this rollercoaster.
But why can't we take a decision without doubting ourselves? It may seem like an insignificant question, but let us think about it for a moment. Everytime we make a choice that is seemingly for our own good, why do we always doubt ourselves? Shouldn't we be proud of the fact that we actually reached to a decision? Why are we even worrying about the future when we don't even know about the present? It's a simple question, but it has a deep meaning. If you have an immediate response to this question, then think again. Because what may seem simple, can actually be a bit complicated.
I also recently asked myself this, and it left me pondering for a good while. After numerous unsatisfactory attempts to answer it, I finally think that I have reached an answer that pleases me.
The reason we keep doubting ourselves is because of our exceedingly high expectations. We expect too much from ourselves even if we are in a new field. And when we don't meet those expectations, we go down a certain rollercoaster of emotions that lead to overthinking on even the seemingly most insignificant things. This rollercoaster of emotions make us overthink even the slightest of situations which always leads us into a never ending abyss of mental confusion.
Even after we take a decision, we never seem to appreciate the fact that we tried. We don't encourage ourselves to try our best and just step out there. Instead, we stand where we are and we overthink everything. We expect ourselves to run faster than anyone ever has when if fact, we haven't even learned to crawl without stumbling. But no one has ever achieved their dreams without stumbling.
You cannot always expect to be a sensation overnight because it just isn't possible. You will have to take a decision, believe in yourself, work hard for it, become knowledgeable in your field and then can you expect success.
I am not telling you to stop having big dreams. Dreams are practically the fuel of success.
But I am asking you to make small goals that will aid you in achieving your big dreams. So, even if you have taken a small step, and just taken a decision, congratulations. Now, keep going and no matter how hard it may get, never stop believing. And if you haven't taken a decision yet, then perhaps now would be a good time to start. Just remember to take it slow and don't expect too much from yourself right off the bat. Just work as hard as you can and never stop believing in yourself. Remember that growth doesn't occur in comfort zones. If you doubt what you are doing, then embrace it. Embrace how you are feeling. Cimbing every single rung of the ladder of growth may be time taking and tiresome, but it will eventually take you up to the top. Keep climbing. Your dreams are waiting for you.
